A funny moment for me listening to the GF on ABC radio (I was on the road) was a comment from one of the callers when it became certain that the Bulldogs would win. He said the last time they were in this position, Robert Menzies was the Prime Minister of Australia and Clive Churchill was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Everyone would know that he meant Winston Churchill.
Rugby League followers like me, would know that Clive Churchill was a legendary fullback for South Sydney. They named the Man of the Match in the GF after him, (the equivalent of the Norm Smith Medal).
That little faux pas aside, the game was exciting from beginning to end. Even though I spent a fair part of my life in Sydney, I was hoping for a Bulldogs victory. There is something about loyal lifelong fans being rewarded with their greatest wish that appeals to me.
Well done Bulldogs and congratulations to your fans.
Tomorrow I am hoping for a victory for the NRL team I followed as a kid in Sydney, they are also the underdogs.
Good luck Sharkies
