The GDXJ entry bar is nowhere near $2 billion. I don't know what the actual figure is but I think it is probably more in the order of US$300M. The last Aussie stock added was RRL last year when it was up around US$500M market cap.
There are other considerations for selection such as liquidity. It's worth noting that PRU was only removed from the GDXJ because of the low liquidity of the Canadian listing, which is where the GDXJ held its shares. If it held the shares on the ASX it would have stayed in. PRU has a higher market cap than BDR and KCN, both of which are still in the GDXJ.
I think the GDXJ will be back one day maybe in the ASX listing. Doesn't really bother me though. The other funds who have bought shares recently are firmer hands anyway and don't need to sway with the market.
