Silver for September delivery jumped 1.7% overnight to US$21.134 an ounce, outpacing the 1.3% climb in gold to US$1,316.90 an ounce on the Comex.
Silver is now up over 9% during 2014.Worth noting and highlighting the potential supply constraint for silver - for the past three-decades the world has used up more of the metal than has been mined.
Gold rose earlier as the U.S. and the European Union imposed the most aggressive sanctions to date on Russian business.
