  1. UK shale pioneer Cuadrilla believes that via revised plans it will fully address the noise and traffic concerns of Lancashire County Council.

The council has today formally accepted Cuadrilla’s request to defer its planning decision for two shale gas sites near Blackpool.

It comes after a planning officer’s report last week recommended the council deny planning permission for the projects, due to noise pollution and the potential impacts on the area’s rural road network.

Cuadrilla, which is partnered by British Gas owner Centrica, subsequently proposed additional noise mitigation measures and requested a deferral.

Additional information will now be assessed by the planning officers.

“We remain committed to the exploration of shale gas in Lancashire,” Cuadrilla said in a statement.

“The additional information we have provided on further mitigation measures will, we believe, fully address the noise and traffic concerns raised by the planning officer’s in their recommendation to refuse planning permission.”
