Do all the usual things. Some mentioned above.

Refrigerate/freeze everything that goes into esky.

As said earlier, leave water in, meats can be stored in plastic containers, use freezy cubes,

those pretty blue things around meats.

Two litre milk containers are the ultimate size, (being square is a good thing), squeeze a little air out,

for making ice. Use as much ice as possible. (top up with a bag or two from servo).

Only open esky for minimal amount of time.

If you have a wooden box that the esky will fit into, all the better.

Making a 'box' costs little, leave enough room top/sides/bottom to fit polystyrene.

Packing from T.V.s, fridges, vegie boxes, anything. Even buy styrene, not very dear.

Cover with an old doona/blankets/silver tarps to keep the cold in, sun off.

Eggs should be refrigerated as soon as they are laid. NEVER are though, so don't waste

esky space, just keep well shaded. Even a second esky with little or no ice.

If taking cordial, pre-mix a 2 litre bottle to 98% full, squeeze air out, and freeze.

I make one up every time I go fishing. Hardly ever drink, but can't afford to drink and drive.

Will stay cold for 5/6 hours even on the hottest day.

Don't keep esky in the car. On the ground, or semi buried, much better.

Simplest of preparation will give nearly a week of cooling. If not in reach of an ice sales outlet,

and staying longer, and regularly, buy a bar fridge and gen set.
