I reckon we should wait for the trial or coroners report before we jump to conclusions as to who did what and when and why.
Yes.
Now I'll throw some petrol on the fire....
In recent years the input costs for grain cropping have gone absolutely ballistic*. To cut costs, machinery has got much bigger and very hi-tech, self-steering is de rigeur, straight lines, huge areas. It used to be considered good management to leave a few scattered trees, but on the vast black soil plains they all had to go to make room for the big machinery.
This led to conflict, culminating in today's tragedy.
*This week, the permanent closure has been announced of 17 country grain silos. The cost of which is massive. Those costs include;
1. Many more semitrailers driving long highway distances to deliver grain, and the resultant expensive road damage.
2. Millions of dollars invested in physical silos that now sit empty.
3. The demise of small towns, and all the costs of that, people driving to major centres for simple requirements.
So it all comes down to costs out of control. Name your own reason for that.
