played around with the energy meter a bit more - eg, finally read the instruction, to make better use of the features .

watso did buy a new all one in computer as a consequence of buying the energy meter - but what was interesting, was that leaving the router on, then the new computer still used about 20 watts (in sleep mode) - but when the router was switched off, it used zero watts.

watso seems to think that the energy meter does not recognize any power use less than about 5 watts - because the meter did not recognize the power consumption of some led lights.

the old plasma tv used about 200 watts - but that varied a fair bit - probably depending on the amount of colour (maybe brightness) .  watso still has a 28 inch crt tv, in the spare room - so will check that power consumption one day....mmmmm was just reading up on the matter - and interesting

the fridge uses about 200 watts, when running  - and overnight, used a paltry 15c worth in 12 hours - but then again, the fridge did not have to do much work, as it is winter, and was only opened a few times.

watso used to leave the tv on for most of the day, without actually watching much -eg watso might go to bed, watch the tv, then sort of close his eyes and try and listen for a while - then finally go to sleep - and the tv would be on all night.  lol, watso rediscovered the radio, and found that to be quite interesting.  given that  watso mostly watched abc24, and that the same news was repeated all the time , for most of the day, then rediscovering the radio was a good thing.

mmmmm - made the effort and battled through the cobwebs and dust of the spare room , and connected up the set top box - and the power consumption of the crt tv was about 85 watts .  considering the cost of the plasma tv ( a few years ago), and the extra power consumption, then maybe it was a bit of an extravagance - but heh, the big screen was pleasant
