    The most likely thing is that the battery died (hence all the warning lights and no power steering) and the alternator also died trying to keep everything running plus charging a shorted battery. So the warning light almost certainly won't go out, and your new battery will go flat, which will shorten its life.

    If the alternator had failed first, it would only have been the battery light that came on, not all of them. The car will run for hundreds of k's on a good battery and no alternator (except at night!).
