    Clean drinking water and better sanitation and hygiene, coupled with the introduction of refrigerated foods, did more for reducing infectious disease deaths over the last century than any medical intervention.

    The selective use of antibiotics, strictly for bacterial infections only, also helped reduce deaths (not doled out for every cold and flu virus, as they have been over recent decades, where they have no effect other than to create havoc in the immune system while creating drug resistant super-bugs throughout society).

    ER and trauma medical procedures save lives. As for modern pharmaceutical medicine for the treatment of chronic disease, well it's beyond woeful (as evident in the surging death rates of heart disease and cancer).
