Well, today lost the last of the 'Oldies'...that is, the generation above us.

Now, Roy...all of 93 years was no ordinary fellow. Last Christmas he cooked 'Duck a l Orange' ....did a pudding as well. Not only could he cook but he put all our memories to shame. You see Roy could recite the recipes in full. He was always imparting his knowledge of how to coook, clean or the way to make home-made bait to catch fish. He used to come and fish off the end of our wharf. He was my sister's father-in-law and lived just around the corner from us.

He was part of all the family gatherings over the years. He was annoying at times....you'd be at lunch enjoying the conversation when he would invade your space and start talking to you about something completely different. Mind you he was pretty deaf so he probably didn't realise that everyone else was absolutely engrossed in conversation that you just hated missing out on. As annoying as it was, it was one of the many things that made him special.

He'd had some health complications lately....his heart and kidneys. However; in the end he decided he just didn't want to be here. Time to join his beautiful wife who departed a few years ago . So, from a hospital bed he was able to tell them himself to stop all unnecessary treatment, he wasn't eating, he was in pain....his time had come.

Gone but not forgotten, a life well-lived. I shed a tear or two, had a glass of red, which he loved, in his honour...Merlot, he loved it....

    Cheers...
