In case anyone interested here is a copy of a post I did on the xjo therad
Hi Trippers, interesting the no. of posters; impressive.
Something I read at the start of the thread got me looking back on some old charts and comments I had made. One stock I have been "looking at" is BHP. Closed $33.40 on Friday. It had a high of $34 back in 2006 and so its moved "sideways" for 8 years; not worth trading???
I remembered this old chart from 2011:
I thought I would see what it looks like back to that 2006 high; here are the declines > 20%. There are 8; The "big Australian" has a 20% decline nearly every year .... amazing hey?
& here I have added what to my eye are the significant moves up; I have changed the price from candles to a line so its clearer; also included that same calc a the first chart. Love it if someone checks the maths. Done this in a real hurry (& hope I haven't stuffed a decimal place or 2)
Some amazing numbers there & shows the power of compounding & trading with the trend.
cheers g
