"A key Pentagon advisor is warning Australia that its next submarine fleet purchase may be obsolete as a result of game-changing technology breakthroughs in drone warfare."
Well, we have bought duds before, eh?
But the unwritten "advice" from the advisor may just be "....but if you buy from us the latest "Hillary Clinton Class" sub, at only $US3 billion each (but only if purchased in multiples of 10) , you will be fully protected from all current and future threats (except for from our secret weapons if you cheese us off by not doing as you're told.)
The HC Class sub is expected to be ready for delivery in 2020 if we iron out a few teething problems by then.
The sub's electronic protection systems currently dont work if it's placed in water, but we expect a patch for that by late 2019, available at a cost of only $1.5 bill.
Another little hiccup is that they cant operate (in or out of the water) within 200 miles of an f35 fighter...but that shouldnt be a problem as they'll never become operational anyway (the f35, that is).
So, cancel all present orders and put in your order for your HC Class subs now....available only in multiples of 10, and sorry, only available in one colour....black.
