I largely agree with your sentiment on this Pintatoo. The current laws explained in this Leaflet from the Attorney Generals Department are more than sufficient. Indeed they are over the top because the definition of what constitutes a terrorist organisation are too broad.
Yes, pick on the ISIS supporters BUT this law has been misapplied before to target other (agreeably undesirable) political groups on the loony left (Socialist Alliance, Resistance etc). I hate those groups. They are trouble and may well cause trouble at the G20 HOWEVER if the police arrest these losers I would defend their rights to be treated before the law as ordinary losers rather than as potential Islamic State bombers, recruiters or funding agents. Yes they arrested a green left American by the name of Parkin a few years ago on suspicion that he may do something but failed to tell him why he had been detained. I dislike Parkin's ways BUT in a democracy such as ours the accused has a right (IMHO) to be told what they are accused of and on what basis ...... so that they may respond to the accusation. That is how the rule of law is supposed to work and that is supposedly what we are fighting for.
I'm all for very small government and minimum government intervention in our personal lives. I oppose the current fear mongering by Abbott & Co because it divides our community.
cheers
