Hi everyone
A week or so ago the Global Fund were successful in its latest round of fund raising with donors pledging US$13bn to the organisation to fight against Malaria, TB and HIV.
For those interested the official press release is here- http://www.theglobalfund.org/en/news/2016-09-17_Global_Fund_Donors_Pledge_Nearly_$13_Billion_to_Help_End_Epidemics/
And a couple of articles are here -https://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/32650114/global-fund-collects-almost-13-bln-to-fight-aids-malaria-and-tb/#page1 and https://www.devex.com/news/global-fund-sees-new-donors-persistent-gaps-88779
What was interesting was Global Fund Investment Case Summary which is here:
http://www.theglobalfund.org/documents/publications/other/Publication_InvestmentCase_Summary_en/
In particular this section (I have bolded the relevant section):
Malaria most threatens children under five and pregnant women.
We have to find innovative solutions to end the
epidemics. Investing in programs that increase access
to critical HIV prevention and treatment services is not
enough; we also have to support programs that seek
to change environmental and social factors that put
women and girls at increased risk. Blanketing a country
with mosquito nets is not enough; we have to take a
comprehensive approach to malaria. Diagnosing and
treating TB cases in the same way is not enough; we
have to dramatically expand outreach.
I think the above section clearly demonstrates that Artimist would be a suitable recipient for some funding from The Global Fund in its 2017-2019 plans and I think the above comments are recognition that the holy grail (ie a malaria vaccine) needs to be combined with effective treatments.
Whether it’s in the form of supporting a pre-referral trial or assisting in the distribution of Artimist this can be nothing but a positive development for Artimist and SUDA.
All IMO only
Cheers
