Hi
@Freehold
I think the takeaway from this discussion is the solution itself and how likely is it going to persist or be successful moving forward.
The physical web is a sort of standard of device/object interaction while Xped is a architecture/app specific solution. Think about
http vs
http://www.yourcompany.com
The simplest analogy is "reading" . Any man /child/woman can read. As long as you can see you can read. This is for an example called physical web. Its the protocol. However, RYG's solution is that you can only read if you own a Kindle. You need to own the Kindle to read. They are selling the fact that Kindle is 128 bit secure and is much more customizable. You can even imprint your name on the kindle. While physical web can also represent a hardcover book.
However Facebook / Apple / Google all have their own version of this protocol with almost similiar architecture. As long as the device is smart (Bluetooth) , you will be able to read with other tech giants. It does not need to be read through a kindle (ADRC - RYG).
Anyways , with Physical web - each device will have a URL/Frame which could be beamed onto your device. The low emitting beam will always be on so as soon as you pass by say the coffee shop - the coffee machine will beam you the device/order process to order something. This will be seamless because it is a protocol implementation much like what http or ftp is.
This is amazing because even your table could have a URL with physical web. However with RYG each device will need the ADRC tech. Then this device will need a environment specific app (IOS , Android , Windows, ... ) and open them and tap to connect. Now the learning of the device happens on the app level and decision/logic is based on app level to determine how to operate.
With physical web for an example - the coffee machine (
Object) will tell you the options to order. With RYG solution the - RYG specific app (
App ) will need to know what a coffee machine will do. Not to mention the hardware of Xped isn't commercialized which means it will have horrendous time optimizing device specific battery life.
Calibration of these devices is going to be another problem. Battery life . I have seen large company's literally cringe even when Estimote was available for
3 for 99 because suddenly these beacons just pile up to the cost of implementation.
Look there will always be company adopting RYG given the marketing efforts but they will eventually move to physical web because with physical web there is no central registry which I think will eventually become the USP and the adoption kicker for most people.
I don't hold but my first response was in relation to a comment about something else I hold. Anyways this is my area of interest so always up for discussion.
