Let's understand what Combet said to Chris Ullman in the interview tonight.

In answer to a question regarding Rudd's comment that Combet needed a bit of "de-unionising" before he could be made a minister he told of how he had been offended by that remark.

He proudly admitted that "we" (immediately correcting himself to say "the unions") invested tens of millions of dollars in union funds to fight the 2007 election on behalf of Labor, concentrating on 24 (from memory) marginal seats of which they won 22, His major emphasis was on industrial relations - thanks for which we regressed decades.. He said that they had permanent staff based in each of those electorates. He implied or claimed he deserved better because he helped deliver power.

My question - what gives him the right to spend other people's money on such an exercise? Did he consult all those who were only union members because they were forced to and/or worked in a closed shop? What right does he have to basically undermine the democratic process?

He should be charged with sedition. He got his reward as a Labor hero and ran away when it got too tough. A very intelligent but dangerous man imho and I'm glad he's out of government..

Why would an interviewer not ask these questions - aren't hey obvious ones?
